Brexit to push up the cost of wine even more
Increased paperwork, freight costs and messing about with other government regulations means another whopping increase in the cost of wine from Europe. It sounds like we will be drinking a lot more non-european wine in the future.
Greedy Government – at the time of writing (Jan 2021) the greedy government creams off £2.68 on every bottle of still wine, and £3.43 on every bottle of sparkling wine. The greedy government does nothing towards wine production, it simply rips off the public every time we buy. More about wine taxes here [opens in a new window].
In contrast the French government collects just 3p per bottle. In fact most of southern europe pay less than 5p a bottle tax. Why should we pay so much tax on wine?
