Updating the Prayer Book Curses

A Modern Update For The Curses In The Book Of Common Prayer

In 2021 few people will know, or care, that the Book of Common Prayer has a section of curses. Maybe it’s time to update them so they feel more applicable to the twenty-first century and include a healthy dose of political correctness.

Here are some suggestions for modern curses and politically-correct applications . . .

Cursed is he that smiteth his neighbour secretly.

Might become Cursed is anyone who injures another or hurts their feelings or says anything that anyone else might not like.

Cursed is he that perverteth the judgement of the stranger, the fatherless, and widow.

Might become Cursed is anyone who changes anything that affects someone else including those without a father for whatever circumstance including all reasons and circumstances for not knowing who one’s father was and female persons without a partnerperson for wahtever circumstances.

Cursed are the unmerciful, fornicators, and adulterers, covetous persons, idolaters, slanderers, drunkards, and extortioners.

Quite a list, in 2021 a few more can be added . . .

Purveyors of false news, drug pushers, social media influencers, phishers, individualists . . .

Add your own to the list but remember that you we all fall short of the true standards.
