Speaker Martin in denial
Monday, 18 May 2009 20:29

A thick skin is necessary in politics, but for everyone there is a time to realise that your number is up, people have no confidence in you and your ability to do your job.

For the Speaker of the House of Commons, Michael Martin, that time is now passed. Martin has had ample opportunity to resign and go gracefully. Now he will have to be dragged kicking and screaming to the block and his head cut off.

It could have all been so different. The moral is, when your time is up admit it, and go with good grace and everyone will speak well of you for 'doing the right thing'.

As it is, he will certainly go down in history, but for the wrong reasons!
