24.1 billions pounds lost in a single year

73 000 people will toil away for their whole working lives just to take home what this bungling bank lost on one year.

When you say it quickly it means nothing, 24.1 billion, but that's 24 100 000 000 pounds, still not easy to visualise, so let's put it into earnings. A person on the UK 'average wage' would take over 55 years to take home a million pounds, and a person on minimum wage would take over 120 years to take home a million.

Taking somewhere between the average and minimum is reasonable, so we can say that a million pounds represents the lifetime take-home pay of 3 people.

A billion is 3 000 lifetimes of earnings, and what the Royal Bank of Scotland lost in one year represents 73 thousand working lives.
