Ireland shoots itself in the foot with filming levy

The Cliffs of Moher is the most visitied place in Ireland, a stunning view. Publicity is good for tourist attractions, businesses pay out billions every year for advertising, including huge amounts just to get their brand image in front of the cameras.

The county council responsible for the Cliffs of Moher takes a slightly different view, they want 500 euros if film crews want to film the cliffs even though they are part of the landscape. There is also an 8 euro parking charge which is outrageous too.

Fortunately film crews are not stupid and the latest one simply packed up and left. As a result the Cliffs of Moher and Ireland lost publicity that would have been invaluable.
