Incompetence of breathtaking proportions

Young people unempolyed but still the immigrants stroll in

Wednesday, 12 October 2011 07:40

One is always amazed that we have millions of young people (under 24) unemployed and still the government claims there is a skills shortage as one of the reasons for letting immigrants into the country.

We spend a fortune educating our young people then give jobs to newcomers from abroad whilst paying our own children to do nothing.

We subsidise the production of the next generation of unemployed by paying child benefits and still allow immigrants to bring in their wives and families to breed more.

What has got into the minds of our politicians? Can they not see what is happening to this country?

Sadly the answer no, our politicians are too focussed on their own adgenda to even listen to what the people have to say. They are interested in us once in a while, at election time, when all they want is our cross on the ballot paper. After that we are back to the elected dictatorship that passes for democracy in the UK.

10 years of war in Afghanistan a lost cause

Thursday, 30 June 2011 06:08

Why have we wasted 10 years of war in Afghanistan?

Our young men, and a handful of women have been sacrificed to Tony Blair and George Bush's war vanity. It's dragged on for ten years, for those with an eye for statistics, that's as long as 1914 - 1918 and 1939 - 1945 put together. Admitedly less have been killed on our side, but that's not surprising, we just don't have the huge numbers to send over the top and be mown down by enemy machine guns.

What have we achieved ?

The Taliban can still mount an attack and take a major hotel in the middle of Kabul killing civilians and the Afghan army - does it deserve that title? - still had to call in US firepower to kill off the enemy. We have achieved nothing. It's another Vietnam.

We need to face the facts and get out, we can't afford to keep pouring money down the drain. There are only two sources of money in Afghanistan, growing poppies and accepting aid money. The US and UK governments seem to believe they can buy off the Afghans, well they tried that in the 800s with the Danes, we paid them to go home. Back then things were simpler, we paid by handing over chests of silver and gold in vast quantities. The Danes responded by using the largess to pay more fighters and come back again and again for more. It just shows we never learn.

Now dear David Cameron has his own war, Libya, yet another money sink - no objective, no exit strategy and no way for the people of the UK to voice their mistrust of the government.

Olympic madness

Friday, 24 June 2011 12:26

Politicians are not the most sensible breed of people at the best to times, but when it comes to national prestige projects such as the Olympic games even they rise to new heights of incompetence scaling previously unconquered peaks with the ease of a mountain goat. To make matters worse the population actually believes the rubbish they say and seem to want more of it.

Look back 7 years to Athens, the Greek government spent around 27 billion euros on the games, today the legacy is rotting buildings that have been looted of electrical fittings, copper pipe and anything else that can be sold for scrap while the rest of the EU is asked to bale out the Greeks. Maddness on a grand scale.

But wait a moment and look a little closer to home.

The UK is hosting the 2010 Olympic games, the ticket sales mechanism is a fiasco worthy of the Greeks, especially the recent increases in salary that the organisers have given themselves, reputely in the region of 13%. A massive handout by an standard, but in this supposed age of austerity it is hard to see how the government can stand by and allow it to happen. Oh, but let's not forget that many ministers and other hanger's on will be getting the best seats at the games without even having to enter a lottery and certainly without parting with any cash.

The Olympic games are a white elephant, the cost will haunt our grandchildren - except that governments will be keeping the cost hidden now and in the future.
