Hero only did what he was trained for

The pilot of the aircraft that flew into a flock of geese shortly after take-off from New York has been hailed a hero.

It seems strange that the 'hero' tag should be attached to someone that did just what he had been trained for and what he.

Yes, the man did a good job, but hero, miracle, wonderful, etc etc are over the top. Congratulations are due, but let's put things into perspective, on the UK roads we kill the equivalent of a jumbo jet each and every month. We kill 20 children under 14 every month in accidents in the home. Nothing is made of these deaths.

It's great to hear some good news, but let's just keep our sense of value.
