Road pricing

Despite 1.8 million signatures on a petition against road pricing the Labour government is determined to force this onto the British people. They are also determined to make us all carry identity cards. So what is the real agenda?

Road pricing is nothing to do with congestion, taxation or safety.

It is everything to do with surveillance.

With a global positioning device fitted in your vehicle the government knows exactly where you are at every moment. That means that your life is no longer your own, you will be watched continuously. Your movements will be recorded as well as the addresses that you visit and the times. Every one of us will be 'tagged' in the same way that prisoners are tagged when they are a danger to society. You will have no choice about this.

Also remember that the spy in your vehicle is also telling the monitoring computers how fast you are travelling. So the police will no longer need speed cameras, they will be redundant. The speed and direction of your vehicle will be precisely know at every moment. Speeding tickets will be sent automatically and there will be no defence - the police and government will not accept any pleas of innocence.

Combine that with CCTV cameras on every street corner, an identity card that has your fingerprints, iris scans and every detail about you and you have a total picture of your life.

Welcome the Labour and Gordon Brown's vision for the future of Britain.
