Database society - Contact Point

Another government database is set to come into use. This time Contact Point, it will hold the details of every child in the country and continue to hold it for many after they become adults.

This database has been heavily criticised and the legality of the ways in which information in it challenged. These objections have been ridiculed by the government. This is another huge computer project, costing over £200 milllion to set up, and estimated to cost nearly a million pounds a week to run.

It will turn everyone who comes into contact with children into a snooper who can check on their background. There are serious concerns about who will use this information and for what purposes.

It is just another example of surveillance and control by Labour.
