How much is a year in detention, false trial, 15 years of misery and all the rest worth? Would any of us want to endure it?

The award is just, right and proper. The objective must be to ensure that innocent people are not treated in this way. Barry George, recently acquired of the Dando murder should be looking at a similar award. Society owes it to these people to grant them proper recognition for their suffering.

At a more local level there should be compensation for everyone who is falsely accused and later found not guilty. The trauma of suspicion and trial is too much to bear for many of them, their lives are ruined with little or no redress against police, their accusers or the state. This situation should not be allowed to continue.
