Cameron talks tough, but nothing will really chagne

Friday, 12 August 2011 07:32

We've seen it all before - a prime minister talking tough, promising action

You may recall Tony Blair's words - 'Tough on crime, tough on the causes of crime', nothing happened, the Labour government continued to lavish money on the feckless and school-leavers. Nothing has changed, and nothing will change because as soon as Cameron tries to do anything the namby pamby wets will start bleating and the human rights lawyers will have a field day bringing cases and the EU judges is Strasburg will over-rule the UK Parliament.

We need to stop pouring money into benefits for school leavers, single mothers and child benefits, and stop listening to the softies who see everyone as 'disadvantaged' we need to admit that life is not 'fair', some people can't be bothered to work and some can, and those who don't work don't deserve the same standard of living as those who do.

Only then will we see changes.

Aircraft carriers = waste of time and money

Tuesday, 02 November 2010 09:04

2 November 2010, UK Defense Secretary Liam Fox was interviewed on the BBC Radio 4 'Today' and spoke about aircraft carriers.

What he said made interesting listening.

The basic facts are that an aircraft carrier costs more than £2 billion to build, and building the thing takes many years. By the time it's built the UK will not have any aircraft to put on it.d

After only 'six or seven years' it has to be taken out of service for a refit that takes 3 years.

How can the public who pay for this military materiel take this expenditure seriously? After only 6 years in service the aircraft carrier has to be virtually re-built which means it's unavailable for 3 years.

Let's look at that another way, suppose Mr Ford suggested you bought one of his cars but after using it for 6 years you would have to send it back to the factory where they would rebuild it for you but that would take 3 years. Of course you would have to pay for the rebuild and during that time you could make your own arrangements for transport.

Who would be buying a car?

The previous Labour government set up contracts for these aircraft carriers in such a way that we would still have to pay for them even if they were cancelled - thanks Tony Blair and Gordon Brown, you have ensured that every family will be paying for your incompetence for many years to come.

Hospital parking charges - still a tax on the sick and vulnerable

Monday, 11 October 2010 09:37

The new coalition government has decided not to abolish hospital parking changes. Quite predictably many hospital have jacked up their charges by as much as 150% since the decision was announced.

Hospitals should not be charging for car parking, it's just a tax on the sick and their visitors. We the taxpayers are already paying for the hospitals and all the services they provide so in effect we're been made to pay twice.

Another way to look at it that the sick are being made to pay for the welfare benefits of the great army of people who don't work and have never worked, how does that fit in with 'fairness'?

Write to your MP and tell them that hospital parking charges should go, here's a letter that you are welcome to copy . . .

Dear [MP's name]

Hospital parking charges

I read with dismay that the government has decided not to abolish parking charges at hospitals.

I can not understand the claim that this would be too expensive. It is simply a tax on the sick and everyone who goes to visit them in their hour of need. So called 'trusts' are extorting money from the sick and vulnerable, you like to talk about fairness, but what I see is the strong, ie the hospital management preying on the weak.

Hospitals should never be charging for parking, it's part of the treatment and should be free.

As a general observation, I am a great supporter of the current government, but am not at all happy with the what is happening. I have recently moved to semi-retirement and see prices and charges rocketing up while my income from investments is the lowest it has ever been. This needs to change, and soon.

Yours faithfully,
