High energy prices are the result of government policies

Wednesday, 25 September 2013 07:04

The cost of raw energy has risen steadily, but a far bigger cause of rocketting energy prices is government policy.

We have a crazy set of policies that see huge amounts of cash being channeled into renewable energy that could never hope to be economically sensible. Why you may ask do we have legally-binding targets and the switch away from coal while China and India build 4 new coal power plants EVERY week. (read more . . .)

China has 620 coal fired power plants (Sept 2013) and is not going to reduced coal use. The same applies to India.

The Chinese and Indians must laugh at Europe and its hand-wringing politicians who condemn us all to pay hundreds of pounds a year more than necessary for no tangible benefit.

Common sense dictates that we get back to coal, it's in the ground under our country, a secure energy source, massive potential for employment and above all an almost limitless source of cheap power.

Unfortunately our politicians are afraid of taking any real decisions except leaving us to foot the bill now and for ever.

Tipping on cruises

Tipping on cruises - time for the operators to think harder

Most cruise operators still operate in the past, whereby they pay the on-board staff a pittance and expect cruise passengers to top up the crew's wages by giving ridiculous amounts in tips, such as $15 per person per day.

Cruise operators need to wake up to the fact that Europeans and Australians are not like Americans, we don't tip! We resent even the idea of giving a tip. As far as we are concerned we pay for a ticket and don't expect to pay more. When we do our shopping in our local supermarket the cashier does not expect a tip so why should a barman?

The 'baby boomers' have worked hard for their money and most of them are simply not going to give it away, what they do expect is that staff are paid properly and do their jobs without always having their hands out for more. Wake up cruise operators, you are now dealing with a different group of people who think differently!

Canada - the only country recognising that climate chage is not man-made

Tuesday, 13 December 2011 16:58

At last a country quits the Kyoto protocol recognising that it's a waste of time and space.

Kyoto was going to cost Canadian families over £1000 each while the US and China would be doing nothing. It's time our spineless apology for a government pulled out too. The costs are eye-watering and all we are doing is subsidising China and other polluters.

We should be building coal-fired power stations to use the massive quantities of coal that sit below the UK that are ours to dig out.

Climate change is natural - just 10 1000 years ago, ten thousand, which is the blink of an eye in geological time, there was ice more than a mile thick covering the UK. In just 10,000 years all that ice has melted and raised sea levels to the extent that we can no longer walk to France.

Ask the eco-nazis and green gestapo to explain that away!
