Labour Dogma More Important Than Anything Else

Sunday, 06 July 2008 06:49

The EU is set to approve new rights for patients that will allow then to shop around for treatment. If approved the measures will mean that costs are paid by the patient's own national health scheme in their home country.

Costs would be similar to those paid in the patient's home country if the treatment had been done there. Patients would not need to get approval first. However, the government said that the NHS was committed to ensuring that they decided what they pay for.

If the government was really committed to patient welfare and making sure people got treatment quickly and efficiently they would be welcoming this measure because it takes pressure off NHS facilities. The Labour government is more interested in keeping standards low and the same for everyone rather then getting the best for us.

Smokers paid to quit and more luncay

Saturday, 21 June 2008 09:02

The BBC leads with an article that says . . .

'Smokers in the poorest areas of Dundee are being offered £150 worth of groceries by the health service if they are able to give up cigarettes.

Participants in a 12-week scheme will be given £12.50 a week by NHS Tayside if a carbon monoxide breath test proves they have not been smoking.'

Am I missing something is it a statement of the obvious to say that quitting smoking would already pay. Put another way, the  £12.50 payment is equivalent to about 40 cigarettes. Someone on 20 a day would be nearly three times better off quitting, but perhaps they can't see that. I can already see deals being done with the electronic card.

Drivers would be better off not driving, drinkers would be better off not drinking . . . the list is endless. What will the do-gooders come up with next?

Vehicle Excise Duty - VED

CO2 saving from shake up of VED (car tax) less that 2 hours production

At Prime Minister's Questions today (4 June 2008) Gordon Brown said

'the shake up of vehicle excise duty would save 1.3m tonnes of CO2'

proof that the lunatics are running the asylum if we needed it.

In 2007 the UK produced 5800 m tonnes of CO2, which means he's talking about a reduction of less than one quarter of one percent, put it another way, that's less than 2 hours production.

The man must be crazy to inflict so much extra stealth taxation and misery on the people of the UK - over a billion pounds in the next two years.

I was so shocked I checked the figures twice - they are correct.

It's a tax grab dressed up as 'green tax' nothing more.
