Wild imaginings crown statue of liberty

4 July 2009 and the public is at last able to visit the crown of the stature of liberty in New York. About time too.

Wild imaginings is the only way to describe the collective psyche of the americans. Individually they are pleasant enough people, but put them into a uniform, give them a little power over their fellow men and you would not recognise them. Suddenly they become the authoritarian agents of a state that believes the everyone in the world is out to get them, and it is their individual duty to hassle anyone and everyone.

If you don't think that's true, just do a little research on what's needed to visit the US these days. The crown at the top of the statue of liberty may be open, but there are lots of uniformed jumped-up dictators who think everyone of them is public enemy No 1.

What the world needs now is a bit of common sense applied to airport security. Our governments have imposed ridiculous restrictions on passengers by stopping us from taking liquids etc onto aircraft. There is no real threat, but we are hounded and brow beaten by more jumped-up little Hitlers at the airport. Let's be honest, the terrorists are young males, of a certain ethnic origin. Why should every air passenger be inconvenienced when there is only a need to suspect one section of the travelling public?

Why is airline travel singled out when devastating results could be obtained by simply lighting a fire on a train as it went into a long tunnel. Our government is driven by a nanny state mentality that thinks they know best and can eliminate all risk by rules and more laws.

Living in the UK is now living in a place that's heading for totalitarian rule if Labour even get back in power. We need some common sense applied and less paranoia.

Leave the statue of liberty for the americans, don't visit their country and don't buy their goods or services. That's the only thing they understand.
